It would be cool to see a nice character creation system that allows for some differentiation between players, rather than having differences be in gear alone. I'm not really a fan of fallout 4/76 style SPECIAL system so I thought I'd suggest something more interesting.

At Character creation you would choose appearance similar to all fallout games, and just like in Earlier fallout games, you would choose your SPECIAL stats at character creation, with no way to increase them later (maybe having a way to respec but not to increase).

SPECIAL stats would ideally provide meaningful bonuses to many play-styles, with no stat being a "dump stat" (Looking at Charisma especially). As such each stat should have one non-combat bonus and one combat bonus as a minimum. I've listed some suggestions for effects of each SPECIAL stat below.



Strength - [Carry Weight] (slots or weight limit), [Melee Damage Bonus] (% or + flat value), [Strength requirement] (Debuff accuracy for guns and swing speed for melee if not met, only for larger weapons like Anti Mat or Minigun).

Perception - [Minor Accuracy Bonus], [Night Vision] (if we have a Day-night cycle like last time), [Vision efficacy] (Having very low PER makes your character have myopia or colour blindness), [Stealth Detection] (Stealth system e.g. PER v AGL determines visibility).

Endurance - [Max Health], [Radiation resistance], [Stamina Drain Minor bonus]

Charisma - [Buying and selling vendor prices bonus], [Buff Gear Bonus] (If Possible, Wearing items that grant SPECIAL bonuses to nearby members of own faction, would scale with Charisma e.g. +0 at 1 charisma, +1 at 5 +2 at 10), [NPC proficiency Bonus] (e.g. leading a squad of AI, would grant them bonus accuracy for ranged weapons and blocking efficiency for melee if possible).

Intelligence - [Crafting Efficiency] (How fast, how many resources), [Healing item efficiency] (how much healing they do), [Skill bonus] (like New Vegas, or if a skyrim style skill system is chosen XP gain boost etc)

Agility - [Movement Speed], [Reload speed bonus] (Improves effective DPS for some gun users), [Stealth Ability] (as for Perception)

Luck - [Critical Chance] (but not damage, damage would be simply double), [Scavenging bonus]


I feel this system of SPECIAL stats would make character creation more interesting, it could also be repurposed for any future RPG type server (e.g. Changing stat names and some stat effects to make it suitable for star wars or warhammer or a fantasy setting etc)




I also think TRAITS would be another good way to bring about character specialization, if done then these would be selected at character creation, and would provide some form of buff and debuff that makes your character more unique, with either one or two slots possible e.g.

Heavy Handed - Melee weapons do 20% more damage, but 60% less Critical hit damage (Where critical hit damage is additive e.g. 20 Damage on a normal hit and a critical does 20 Extra for 40 total, with this Trait you would do 24 damage on a normal hit and 32 on a critical hit)

Fast Shot - Guns and Energy Weapons fire 20% faster, but with 20% less accuracy
